You'll need to download the language pack if you want to make a language your Windows display language that's the language you see most often in Windows and apps.
Type Settings in the search bar , and Select the same. Then tap Change PC settings. Tap or click Time and language , and then tap or click Region and language.
Tap or click a language that says Language pack available underneath, and then tap or click Options. Tap or click Download. The download process might take a while, depending on your PC and the size of the language pack. If you want to make this your display language, see the next section "Change your Windows display language".

However, I had done all the things you mentioned in your reply to no avail. Then a couple of days ago when I turned on my computer, miraculously the little icon in the right-hand corner showed that both English and Japanese were and still are available to us.
I have absolutely no idea why this feature is now working properly again after not having worked for a few weeks. I can only guess that gremlins are to blame.
Whatever the reason, I am glad it is working now, though I am, so far, not a big fan of Windows It seems to run more slowly than Windows 8. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. Search the community and support articles Windows Windows 10 Search Community member. Now, however, the icon is gone and the ability to get Japanese characters to display has vanished.
